'Mutaflor®, first isolated in 1917, is a probiotic comprising of a viable non-pathogenic bacteria strain named Escherichia coli Nissle 1917. Over the last century it has shown through clinical studies effectiveness in preventing relapse and maintenance of remission of ulcerative colitis.

Mutaflor® Escherichia coli strain Nissle 1917 was entered on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods in February 2012 and is still today the only probiotic in Australia registered at AUST R level.

Mutaflor® is registered in Australia for the relief and management of chronic constipation. Your healthcare practitioner may also utilise this strain for its pharmacological, metabolic and immunomodulation properties.

Mutaflor® still today contains this very Nissle strain but manufactured in a modern GMP facility, lyophilized or freeze-dried, a process to remove moisture whilst the strain remains frozen and filled into gelatine capsules that are enteric coated in order that they do not open until the large intestine is reached.


Each enteric-coated hard capsule contains:

Escherichia coli strain Nissle 1917 250 million CFU

Other ingredients: maltodextrin, talc purified, methacrylic acid copolymer, macrogol 4000, triethylcitrate, glycerol, titanium dioxi- de, iron oxide red, white beeswax, carnauba wax, shellac, gelatine capsule, capsule processing aid, purified water.

"Always take Mutaflor® exactly as your Doctor or Healthcare Practitioner has told you. You should check with your Doctor or Healthcare Practitioner if you are not sure.

Adults: For the first 2 days, take 2 Mutaflor® capsules 3 times daily. From the third day onwards, take 4 Mutaflor® capsules daily, or as directed by your Healthcare Practitioner.
Repeat periodically.
The standard dose should be taken with a meal, if possible with breakfast, and an appropriate amount of fluid. Swallow capsule whole, DO NOT break or chew.

Store at 2 °C to 8 °C (Refrigerate. Do not freeze.)

If symptoms persist consult your healthcare practitioner. While no prescription is required it is important that you speak with your Doctor or Pharmacist about any changes to your bowel habits as these changes may be associated with other medical conditions and warrant further investigation."
